The third National Sustainable Procurement Conference 2006 - Sustainability through Smarter Procurement - will be presented by OGC, Buying Solutions and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), on Wednesday, 1 November 2006, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London.
This event will offer an outstanding opportunity for all delegates, whatever your role within public procurement, to be involved in a stimulating debate and gain expertise from people at the forefront of the UK's sustainable procurement agenda.
Background
Sustainable procurement is so vital because any decisions today impact on the well-being of our future generations, as well as ourselves. For example, we're already feeling the effects of past activity, such as:
experiencing the ten warmest years globally since 1994 (since formal records began in 1861);
the 1995 heatwave, seen as a once in a century event, but forecasts for 2050 say it can happen every five years.
We have the opportunity now to use the Government's substantial expenditure as a lever to act on such issues, within value for money policy and EU procurement rules, and can benefit from real savings through sustainable procurement. With this in mind, this conference will provide a platform for thought provoking discussion on sustainability through smarter procurement, with eminent procurement experts from the public and private sector leading the debate.
