The Government conducts some of the most complex and challenging procurement projects in the world. Did you know that Government spends £125 billion annually and must achieve value for money for every pound spent?
Nigel Smith, OGC Chief Executive and Head of the Government Procurement Service, chairs this event, hosted jointly by the Government Procurement Service and National School of Government. The event is reserved for those on the Civil Service Fast Stream and focuses on operational delivery. Two high profile departments are featured that are at the cutting edge of delivering the Government's agenda.
The event also provides an opportunity to find about about new procurement placements that will provide commercial experience as part of the Fast Stream development programme.
Speakers and agenda
Vincent Godfrey, Head of Procurement Group at HM Prison Service and CIPS Purchasing and Supply Management Professional of the Year 2007, will discuss his turn-around of a service under fire from the National Audit Office to a highly effective and efficient service-oriented procurement function.
Morag Stuart, Head of Procurement at the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) will speak about the challenges of ensuring the delivery of all ODA objectives in a high profile, high value (multi £billion), complex procurement project.
Ruth Brutnall, Sustainability Manager with the Office of Government Commerce, gives first hand experience of a Fast Stream placement in procurement. Ruth provides an insight into the significance of procurement to the government and the challenges and rewards of a career in procurement.

The event concludes with a drinks reception, at which delegates will joined by central government Commercial Directors.
