The purpose of this division is to enhance engagement with public sector construction procurement clients and to work with them to improve the value for money they obtain.
This will lead to better public services and cost savings through delivery of built environment programmes and projects that are both cost effective in whole life terms and sensitive to social and environmental requirements.
The aim is to reach a position where the public sector is regarded as 'client of choice' by the construction industry in the delivery of sustainable construction.
The National Audit Office's March 2005 report, Improving Public Services through better construction, estimated that £800 million value gains had been achieved through Achieving Excellence in Construction initiative. The NAO also identified that potential gains of up to £2.6 billion in annual construction expenditure can be achieved across the entire public sector through wider application of Achieving Excellence best practice principles.
The 2005-2015 Construction Demand/Capacity Study report, commissioned by OGC and published in May 2006, will further improve public sector construction procurement performance and help build on the £800 million efficiency gains already achieved.
Both will contribute significantly to OGC's targets to deliver £3 billion value for money savings.
