Length of OGC Copyright Licences


The term of a licence granted by OGC will depend on the type of product to which that licence relates.  For all OGC products (with the exception of PRINCE2 2005 and ITIL V2 which are dealt with in paragraph 4) the following length of licences apply:


1.) Products and Services

This category covers all products and services other than those listed in numbers 2, 3, 4 & 5 below.

Products covered in this category includes books in various formats including but not limited to hard copy and electronic books including e-books, CD ROMS (excluding software tools).

This category covers also covers services such as business services, consultancy services, etc.

Term

The initial term will be 2 years from the date upon which the Licence Agreement is signed.

Extensions for further periods of 1 or 2 years at a time may be available upon request to OGC, however it is at the sole discretion of OGC as to whether such an extension is granted and is subject to approval on a case by case basis depending on the material used and its continued relevance.

2.) Brochures, Reports and other non-chargeable material

This category covers material like:

  •  brochures, leaflets, articles in magazines, 
  • use for academic research or in academic papers
  • reports and related papers
  • bidding documents, audit reports,
  • or procurement process

Term

A Licence Agreement will cover an initial term of 1 year. This is subject to annual renewal upon request and the approval of OGC.

3.) Conferences, seminars, presentations, etc.

All documentation (powerpoint slides, handouts etc) which is required for conferences, seminars and other forms of presentation will fall within this category.

Term

A Licence Agreement will cover an initial term of 1 year. This is subject to annual renewal upon request and the approval of OGC.

4.)  Software Tools

This covers software tools that provide a certain level of functionality i.e. greater than the functionality of an e-book.

Term

A Licence Agreement for Software Tools will run for an initial term of 3 years.

A further extension for a period of 2 years may be available on request.

5.) PRINCE2 2005 and ITIL V2

PRINCE2 and ITIL have recently been updated.   OGC will only grant licences for any product relating to PRINCE2 2005 and ITIL V2 for the following limited periods:

  • PRINCE2 2005 - 6 months from 1st June 2009
  • ITIL V2 - The term will depend on the type of product or service (as above) but will be subject to a maximum end date of 30th June 2011.
