Procurement will deliver the largest chunk of the SR04 Efficiency Gains - 37 per cent or around £8 billion annually by 2008.

OGC is delivering this by coordinating procurement activity across central civil Government and the wider public sector, and making the public sector's 'procurement architecture' more robust.

There are three keys elements to these efforts: 

  • a 'procurement hub' - ensuring leading players from the key central departments and other parts of the public sector work together more closely;
  • a Commodities 'change agent', working to improve aggregation of demand and effective harnessing of supply in common cross-cutting commodity goods and services to reduce overall spending; and
  • a Construction and Facilities Management 'change agent'.
