The GPGS Experience

What the GPGS Graduates say about the Scheme

Tim McKay, HM Revenue and Customs
Being involved in the scheme has provided numerous opportunities to get involved in high value, strategically important procurements. I am currently part of a team undertaking the department's first competitive dialogue process, which has allowed me to apply my knowledge, learned through the support provided by the scheme whist combining it with the on-the-job experiences provided by my host department.

During my time on the scheme, I have found many instances where I have been able to apply my knowledge learned through the GPGS provided training, and put it into practise in a work environment.

Leigh Kopec, Olympic Delivery Authority
One thing I've really enjoyed is that even though I've entered as a graduate, I've been given a lot of autonomy and empowerment to get on with my own work.
Obviously it's incredibly hard work. You're doing a full time job and trying to do the qualifications as well, so you've got to expect that it's going to be a lot of hard work.

Saleem Uddin, Office of Government Commerce
I've managed to gain some real respect with key figures in the big departments that I have worked with by sharing my past experiences in the food retail sector.
It's been a real eye opener for me being from the private sector and never before working in the public sector. But helping tax payers get better value for money motivates me.

What the Managers say about the Scheme

Bob Ager, Central Office of Information
Rachel has been an outstanding addition to our team. She is quick to pick things up and hungry to learn. Rachel is a great example of the quality of candidates that the GPGS offers.

Chris Uden, NHS Purchasing & Supply Agency
The trainees have settled in well, made an early positive contribution to projects and demonstrated a thirst for learning. We have benefited from the trainees network with colleagues in other government departments, as part of the GPGS, and the new ideas that brings. NHS PASA has gained benefits from participating in GPGS which we could never have achieved by our self.

Pat Pattenden, Cabinet Office
Ed has made a positive impact from day one and has been quick to pick things up and add value.
