Closing a Programme

Programmes tend to last for many months - often a few years.  To avoid allowing the programme to drift on as if it is part of normal business, closing a programme provides a focus on achieving the end-goal of the programme.

What you need to do

Programme closure may be scheduled for any point after the completion of the last project and taking into account the benefits realisation plan.

Formal confirmation is required from the SRO and sponsoring group that the programme's Business Case has been satisfied, all projects have completed satisfactorily, and any remaining transition activities have been assigned to relevant benefit operations.

Points to consider

When the programme closes will depend on the amount of support required to ensure the new operational environment delivered by the programme is fully embedded.
