Closing a Programme

Programmes tend to last for many months - often a few years.  To avoid allowing the programme to drift on as if it is part of normal business, closing a programme provides a focus on achieving the end-goal of the programme.

What you need to do

Reviews will have been held throughout the programme, at end of each tranche.  A review at this point should assess and evaluate the performance of the programme and its management processes to identify lessons that may help other programmes.

A further review, after closure of the programme, may be required to proved a complete assessment of the overall benefits realisation process.

Points to consider

To reinforce the work of the programme, a continuous improvement approach should be encouraged to promote further improvements in business performance.
