Following the announcement in March 2002 of the agreements arranged between OGC and IBM, Microsoft and Sun Microsystems, OGC on behalf of the public sector has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Corel for the supply of software and services. OGC believes this MoU will offer the public sector maximum value for money from any expenditure on IT-related goods and services.
However, public sector bodies must continue to decide for themselves on the timing, source and scope of software purchases and upgrades in their organisations.
The arrangements were reached following discussions between the supplier and the public sector negotiating team led by OGCbuying.solutions.
The arrangements with Microsoft, IBM/Lotus, Sun Microsystems and Corel for the supply of software and services, while they do not show any preference for these companies, does demonstrate government's commitment to diversity and competition in the IT market-place.
