Improving the productive use of time in the public sector is one of the key elements of the Government's Efficiency Programme. The initiatives being developed are designed to increase the time spent by public service professionals on core activities that are integral to the delivery of improved front-line services.
To support this, new productive time guidance, prepared in consultation with departments, aims to help departments and front-line delivery agents improve their productive time measurement. It sets out four objectives and supporting principles for the measurement of productive time, a productive time measurement framework and practical advice on the core measurement of activities and quality of service delivery. It also considers some of the issues departments are facing.
