Public procurement is often seen as a lever to achieve economic, social and environmental policy objectives. The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) is working with a range of departments across the Government, providing advice and guidance on how these policy objectives can be incorporated into the procurement process in ways that are consistent with the legal and policy framework governing public procurement.
In particular, OGC has recently published a note on Social Issues in Purchasing that provides guidance on how a range of social issues can be taken into account in the procurement process.
This complements the existing note on Environmental Issues in Purchasing (PDF), which is a joint OGC and Defra publication.
