New publication for property benchmarking service - Better Measurement Better Management

Released on 04/07/2006

The central Government Civil Estate has more than 300 property centres, with an annual cost estimated at £6 billion, covering 13 million square metres of floor space - the equivalent of 2,000 World Cup football pitches.

Thus even modest improvements in managing these assets can deliver significant efficiency savings.

With economic pressures continuing to grow, property needs to be integral to the business planning process, and its efficiency and effectiveness needs to be measured like other business resources. Property must be viewed as more than an inert overhead of doing business.

OGC has published the results of its property benchmarking pilot study in Better Measurement Better Management.

This publication will interest strategic decision makers, project and programme directors, heads of estates, facilities managers and everyone engaged in the development and delivery of departmental asset management strategies.

This new publication illustrates the methodology and shows how organisations can benchmark property against industry best practice, informing strategic decisions about buildings and their impact on delivery. It also outlines the plans for rolling this new service out across central government.
