Civil Service Awards celebrate success

Released on 30/11/2006

The first ever Whitehall & Westminster World Civil Service Awards has applauded excellence in the Civil Service, honouring teams and individuals from across government who have made a real difference to people's lives.

The glittering awards ceremony was hosted by the BBC's Andrew Marr and Channel 4's Samira Ahmed and celebrated the success of the winners and runners-up from 12 different categories. These individuals stood out from a field of over 600 entries for the OGC supported event, championing projects and initiatives in key business disciplines.

The awards were presented by Cabinet Secretary Sir Gus O' Donnell who said:

"I want to dispel the myth that the Civil Service is a collection of Sir Humphreys.  All the finalists have made a fantastic contribution and represent the very best of Civil Service passion and professionalism. The quantity and quality of the nominations that we received shows that there really is a great deal for us to be proud of in the Civil Service."
