The Office of Government Commerce will today announce four new government deals, worth over £1 billion. The deals will allow public sector organisations to make substantial savings on the cost of buying goods and services.
The deals, which have all been supported by the OGC, include:
Speaking at the Public Sector Procurement conference in Manchester this afternoon, OGC's Executive Director of Collaborative Procurement, Richard Abbott, will tell government procurement professionals that these new deals support the Government's recently announced strategy to transform government procurement. He will also talk about the measures the OGC is taking to help government improve its capability to deliver world-class public services and major projects.
Abbott says:
"Transforming Government Procurement has called for a step change in the way government approaches procurement, and a step change in the results we deliver. It's challenging, but it's a very positive sign that procurement is being paid this kind of attention, and reflects how central procurement is to delivering Government's most significant projects as well as achieving best value for money.
OGC has been making rapid progress in delivering some of the key initiatives that will drive and support this transformation, such as the new Procurement Capability Reviews and the development of the Government Procurement Service. Meanwhile these new collaborative deals show just what can be achieved where government departments work together to negotiate high quality deals."
Speaking at the same event, Stephen Heard, Director of Customer Relations at OGCbuying.solutions (the Executive Agency of the OGC) will reiterate the need to understand that transforming government procurement is all about looking at lifetime value.
Heard says: "As the FST said in the Government's response to Procuring the Future 'We know that good procurement is sustainable procurement and we will work in tandem with the Government's Action Plan to strive for a carbon neutral estate by 2012 as we support the UK in meeting its Kyoto targets and tackling climate change'."
Stephen will illustrate a number of practical solutions to help achieve efficient and sustainable procurement, for example, helping public sector procurement professionals achieve both value for money and sustainability targets. "A key element of achieving these targets has been the delivery by OGCbuying.solutions of the procurement policy set by OGC," Heard says.
