The development of the Government's understanding of markets and its relationship with strategic suppliers increases the effectiveness of delivery and the value for money of engagement, through the life of the contract.
Market development necessitates dialogue with potential suppliers to clarify requirements and to provide an understanding of the business models that allow suppliers to deliver. In some cases dialogue will lead markets to be a closer match to emerging demands. Supplier development leads to agreement on how improvement in delivery might be achieved.
The OGC's Strategic Supplier programme will initially focus on two markets, information & communication technology (including software suppliers) and professional services. Market assessment will continue on an "as required" basis, but within planned resources will be restricted to the construction market's capacity work.
