Supporting Guidance and Training

A Risk Potential Assessment (RPA) (MS Excel, 346KB) suitable for programmes and projects, is available to enable predetermined areas of risk to be assessed before the start of each OGC Gateway™ Review and to identify the skills and resources required in the review team.

NB: The RPA is an Excel spreadsheet with macros embedded. You may need to change your security settings within the version of Excel that you are using in order to open it. To do this go to Tools-Macro-Security and choose the Medium option. If you have any other difficulties in accessing the RPA call the OGCservice desk on 0845 000 4999 as an alternative format can be provided. Before starting work on the RPA it is recommended that you first save it to your local hard disk. Guidance on the RPA is contained within the spreadsheet and is accessible from a link at the top of the first page.

OGC Gateway Review Workshops
The following portfolio of workshops is available for the various key stakeholder communities:

OGC Gateway awareness module
A number of departments, agencies and groups both within Central Civil Government and the wider public sector have expressed a need for an increased level of awareness of the OGC Gateway process.  In response to this, the OGC Gateway team, together with Skillbase has developed a half-day module, which is available on request.  The module will be run by an accredited OGC Gateway facilitator or an experienced DGC and can be tailor-made to the specific Department.  For all modules there would be a pre-event discussion between the facilitator and Department to understand the Department background and specific needs.

'Preparing to carry out OGC Gateway Review' workshops
This one-day workshop has been developed to prepare individuals to be able to participate as Review Team Members in OGC Gateway Reviews.  Skillbase will handle all the logistical, administrative and preparatory activities for each workshop as well as providing a Skillbase accredited facilitator to run the workshop.  The workshop is run in partnership with either a representative from the OGC Gateway team or Departmental Gateway Coordinator.

Review team leader masterclass
The Review Team Leader Masterclass has been designed to update and enhance the effectiveness of current OGC Gateway Review Team Leaders (RTL's) who have led at least one Medium or High Risk Gateway Review.  It is an opportunity not only to familiarize RTL's on strategy and recent developments but also as a network opportunity.  It is a requirement that all RTL's attend the one-day Masterclass every 18 months and invitations will be sent out by Jennie Shannon at Skillbase.

Review team member to leader workshop
The M2L Workshop has been designed for experienced OGC Gateway Review Team Members who are prospective Review Team Leaders of high, medium and low risk OGC Gateway Review teams.  The design is based on the expectation that delegates will previously have attended the workshop: 'Preparing to carry Out an OGC Gateway Review' and will have been a Review Team Member on at least one OGC Gateway Review.  The M2L Workshop pilots took place in December 2005 and workshops can now be requested via Skillbase.

Workshop Delivery

Workshops are delivered by experienced and accredited Skillbase facilitators who have been working in partnership with the OGC Gateway team since February 2000 providing consultancy, design and facilitation of flagship training for Central Civil Government Departments and the wider public sector as part of support and accreditation for the OGC Gateway programme. The table overleaf sets out the various events and who the target audience is for each:
