Construction Procurement

OGC commissioned a report to consider the effect of construction demand, across all sectors, during the period 2005 to 2015. It includes an examination of the industry's capacity to deliver built environments for the Olympics to time, budget and the required quality.

The 2005-2015 Construction Demand/Capacity Study report is now available.

In 2003, £33 billion* was spent on public sector construction and in key sectors such as schools, hospitals, roads and social housing capital investment is set to continue expanding.

Well managed and successfully delivered public sector construction provides public departments and agencies with the opportunity to improve service delivery and efficiency.

The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has a remit to work with client organisations across the wider public sector to help them improve their procurement capabilities.

A number of initiatives and guides support this:

Aggregated future Public Sector construction demand information is provided via OGC's Public Sector Construction Database.

Achieving Excellence in Construction provides a series of guides containing key principles for the delivery of successful construction projects.

The Public Sector Construction Clients Forum is working at strengthening the leadership and coordination of public sector construction activity.

Construction and facilities management is also considered within the Efficiency Programme.
