Experian Business Strategies research: 'The Impact of Relocation - Learning from previous relocations'
Each case study within the research considered 3 main stages of the relocation process:
· business rationale,
· planning and execution, and
· ongoing operations
Experian Business identified what worked and what didn't work ,the lessons to be learnt, and how these can be applied to future government relocations.

Rationalising eight regional offices to three, a number of factors affected Ofsted's location decision. Cost reductions, a central location, skilled workforce and excellent transport links easily accesible to London and the South East coupled with their existing, strong presence in Nottingham prompted Ofsted to base their regional headquarters there. In June 2006 Policy and Guidance became the first Standards Board team to relocate to Manchester. The organisation was encouraged by the number of employees that decided to move, with 35% of the Policy and Guidance team heading north. Employees from other departments, such as investigations, have also taken the opportunity to relocate.
